JOB DEFINITION:

This position performs duties under the direction of the speech language pathologist (SLP). This position provides services to students with speech and language needs as determined
appropriate by the SLP and within the scope of the license for an SLPA.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Conducts speech and language screenings without interpretation, utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising SLP.
  2. Provides direct treatment assistance to patients/clients identified by the supervising SLP by following written treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP, excluding swallowing.
  3. Documents patient/client progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established objectives as stated in the treatment plan and reports this information to the supervising SLP.
  4. Assists the SLP with informal documentation during an intervention session (collecting and tallying data as directed by the SLP), prepares materials, and assists with other clerical duties specified by the supervising SLP.
  5. Assists the SLP in collecting and tallying data for assessment purposes without interpretation.
  6. Schedules activities and prepares charts, records, graphs, or other displays of data.
  7. Performs checks and maintenance of equipment.
  8. Signs and initials are needed for treatment notes to supervise the SLP's review and signature.
  9. Provides instructional support to students as directed by the supervising SLP.
  10. Identifies and describes clinically relevant student behaviors to the supervising SLP.
  11. Uses cues/prompts with the student as defined in the treatment protocol prescribed by the supervising SLP.
  12. Provides behavioral reinforcement consistent with the student's developmental age, cultural preference, and communication disorder as the supervising SLP prescribes.
  13. Review and summarize student performance according to the protocol prescribed by the SLP at the end of each session.
  14. Prepares age-appropriate and culturally sensitive treatment materials appropriate to the student's developmental age and communication disorder as prescribed by the SLP.
  15. Instructs small student groups and provides one-on-one tutoring of students as directed by the SLP.
  16. Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  17. Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and customers at all organizational levels.
  18. Fulfill other duties as assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is generally performed in small groups or one-on-one in a climate controlled
classroom/office setting.  May involve exposure to moderate noise intensity levels. Moderate
level of contact with district personnel. May be required to connect to SLP virtually via
computer and telephone. May be required to travel to various sites.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Constant talking and hearing, frequent reaching and handling. Mobility to work in a typical
classroom setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to walk, stand and remain
seated and maintain concentration for an extended period. The employee is frequently
required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and reach with hands and arms. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity;
occasional far acuity. Vision to read printed materials, computer screens and/or other
monitoring devices.


Strength: Sedentary to Medium-heavy – Exert force to 50-75 pounds of force occasionally
and/or or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to
move objects.
