Early Learning Teacher Substitute (Early Childhood) – Candidate Pool
At Sheridan AllPrep Children’s Center (SHACC), we are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where young children can learn, grow, and thrive. As part of Sheridan AllPrep Academy, SHACC also serves as a hands-on learning site for high school students pursuing careers in early childhood education.
We are building a candidate pool for future Early Learning Teacher Substitute opportunities and invite individuals who are passionate about early childhood development and supporting young learners in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
About the Role
Childcare Substitutes provide flexible, on-call support in classrooms serving children ages 6 weeks to school age. This role focuses on maintaining a safe and supportive environment, assisting with daily routines, and supporting lead teachers in delivering developmentally appropriate care and learning experiences.
Substitutes may step into a variety of classrooms and are essential to ensuring continuity of care for children and families.
What You’ll Do
- Support or supervise classrooms in the absence of regular staff
- Assist with daily routines including meals, diapering/toileting, and transitions
- Help implement age-appropriate activities and learning experiences
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and positive environment for all children
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff
- Observe children and support developmental progress as directed
- Assist with classroom organization, cleaning, and general duties
- Follow all health, safety, and licensing requirements
What We’re Looking For
- Individuals who enjoy working with young children in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility and willingness to support multiple classrooms as needed
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A positive, patient, and nurturing approach with children
- Reliability and consistency when accepting substitute assignments
- Interest in early childhood education and child development
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Must be 18 years or older
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Food Handler’s Card (or willingness to obtain)
- Completion of required Oregon childcare trainings (or willingness to obtain)
- Must be able to complete required background checks, including fingerprinting
- Must be eligible for enrollment in the Oregon Early Learning Division Central Background Registry (CBR) (SHACC can support this process)
- Experience working with young children (preferred)
Work Environment
This is an in-person role that includes:
- Working in classrooms with children ages 6 weeks to school age
- Frequent movement, lifting (10–50 lbs), and active engagement with children
- Indoor and outdoor environments with varying noise levels
